Learning.......................

No Mad Bull I haven't dissappeared its just that I am so swamped with school that I just can't blog like I used to its only temporary until final exams in December.

Yesterday I had to swallow tears in a math class it was a revision class for an exam next week and I was just not getting stuff and the lecturer said that you don't need to buy a 7lb math book to understand and I felt bad because I have been one of those who bought that 7lb math book and it has been helpful.

I felt like a duncy head yesterday I hired a math tutor and have been not too honest with him because he teaches above my head and I am too embarassed to tell him this because I don't want him to know how little I know yes I need help and its costing me a lot of money I have to meet him in the next hour and I am scared to tell him this.

I don't feel as bad today as I did yesterday because I saw Oprah and she told some kids that education is the key so she kinda reminded me why I am on this journey also I was helping my son with his homework last night and he was getting very frustrated becasue he had to write a music symbol a treble clef I think and I told him that not everything is going to come easy somethings you have to practice and practice to get it right then I stoped and said girl you need to practise what you preach life is funny like that isn't it.

So I spent the night studing math just one topic in the 10 that I have to understand and yes I am slow and my brains are old and filled with cobwebs but I am trying my best and hope and pray that I don't fail any exams I can think of about only maybe 2 exams I have ever failed in my school life and I think thats what gets me down the most the fact that things are usually so easy for me but this I think is one of my biggest challenge and I am truly afraid of failure.

I can't blog as often because i have been known to just check in on my blog and end up spending whole night reading blogs instead of studing so somedays to protect myself I just don't even visit my page to fight the temptation but as I said its only until final exams I still love blogging and reading blogs.

Oh and please wish my my countries football team the Soca Warriors good luck tomorrow they have a crucial worldcup qualifier match with Bahrain and we need to win this so please if you could get to see it where you are watch it and wish them luck.

I think it starts at 6pm.

Small Island Girl a word of advice from an older student.....leave the pride at home. If you have a tutor and you don't understand tell him/her. otherwise that is when it will cost you...resits not cheap. Maths is a lot of revision and constant practice. It is not something that any book by itself will teach you. work with friends and again...drop the pride....if you don't know you don't know. no dunce thing around here... :( We all learn in different ways. The subject I've had the hardest time with so far is a course that is as simple as swatting a text. I have trouble with those courses because I work by applying learnt concepts. There ain't no concepts in swatting......
Relax and take it one step at a time and you'll be surprized to know how much you do know......

As Scratchie said, just tell the guyu to start from first principles. Then you should be alright. Oh, and Maths is all about practice. Good luck, and I will pray for T&T because if Jam doh make it, at least some of my Caribbean homeys will!

Thanks for the link in your "Marriage blogs" section. Seems strange to me to see a link from Trinidad, please leave a comment on my site about how you found me.
Do not hesitate to tell your tutor to SLOW DOWN. Math was always tough for me too, until 10th grade Trigonometry when I had a teacher that just taught me in way I understood. If your tutor won't slow down FIRE him. Then hire one that will take the time to understand 'how' you learn. It IS your money. I hope your football team won (I played for 16 years, Yes! In the states it sucks that we call it soccer), and good luck on your exams!

That makes two of us. I'm so pressed for time. Projects, assignments, mid-semester exams,a dn the impending final exams..aaahhhhh!!!!!

This year math has definately overpowered me. I don't understand shit! I only understand one of the opic and my math Lecturer can't teach to save his life, or he is just too lazy.

The next thing is that I don't see anything practical in this math course.

Hang in there, we'll pull through girl.

Yes, agree with all advice so far. However, as one whose University Record is permanently flawed by the F in M 080, I would say to hell with Maths! Ask me how much Math I use use as a medical practitioner? Certainly not too much. I hate that crap. 'Till this day, it remains the only final examination I failed at the UWI.

But, press on with what you have to do. And, yes, doh feel shame to tell who teaching you that you doh undastan, chances are many others are in the same situation.

Wow, above is one of the most intricately constructed spam slices I've ever seen...

Anyway, this is all very good advice. A tutor is like a lawyer; he/she can't help you unless they know your exact situation and circumstances...
Don't be disheartened by your lecturer's comment about the 7lb math book, it's just a concise way of phrasing that there are many sources of information on any given subject, and each has differing nuances of importance, which must be given their fair due… You cannot master anything unless you take your information from the varied available sources. Also remember that, passing and failing only exist as a mark someone else sets to judge you by their standards… When you learn and understand something new, no matter how insignificant it may seem at the time, you ‘pass…’
